YOU’RE MEDITATING ALL WRONG

Meditation is one of those buzzwords that we hear every now and then on social media. We see these mega-successful people preaching it as one of their ‘daily habits’.

Maybe they do this to feel like they are better than others, or maybe they do it because they are better than others. Regardless of the reason, it is important to understand that:

Meditation isn’t something people do to become successful, but something people do because they became successful; it's a product of their success, not a reason for it.

The same goes with the majority of other bougie habits; having the perfect morning routine won’t make you successful, but once you are successful, you’ll need a morning routine to help keep your life in place.

So what is the point of meditation? What does it achieve?

If you turn back the clock a bit, you'll find that the word meditation stems from the Latin term ‘meditatum’, which means “to ponder.”

And 150,000 to 200,000 years ago, the act of meditation helped our ancestors develop the working memory essential for human evolution.

Which really means that people practiced meditation in order to develop their memory, or, in other words, strengthen their mind.

So by practicing meditation, we become more aware of how our minds work and how thoughts are connected to feelings and behaviour.

This makes it quite clear why you see successful people practicing meditation—not because they feel like it will make them more successful but because they understand the importance of strengthening their mind.

The process of 'strengthening the mind’ looks something like this:

  • Finding peace within the mind

  • Understanding the mind

  • Having utter control over the mind

In a world of overstimulation, meditation can be a cheat code to help you reconnect with yourself and strengthen the most important thing that you have, your mind.

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

Try it yourself; you don’t have to be successful in order to practice meditation; typically, when someone is successful, they realise the true importance of it.

It doesn't mean, however, that you can’t hack the system and get started yourself early on.

Do some research, find some free guides, download some apps and make a start.

LESSON OF THE DAY ⤵️

“How to build accountability while working alone?”

- Anonymous

In order to build accountability when working alone, you need to create systems for yourself, which include check-ins and goal-setting.

Building self-accountability requires a huge amount of discipline and control, but those who can do it will scale exponentially, as not depending on others for their own growth is a superpower trait.

Create systematic check-ins with yourself where you analyse where you are and reward yourself accordingly.
