What if you could win every single day? Every single day that you rest your head on that pillow, will you be full of enjoyment, pride, and satisfaction? Chances are that’s not going to happen every single day because the majority of the time we don’t have control over what life throws at us and the conclusion of our day is up to external factors. However, there are a few key things that you can do in order to squeeze the most out of every day.

The first is creating your own pillars of improvement. The reason a lot of people don’t consider their days productive or successful is because they are using other people's metrics of what productive and successful mean, which is why you should be creating your own pillars.

Pick 4 things that you want to grow or improve at the moment; this could be anything from fitness to family time, reading, etc.—anything that means something to you that you want to be better at tomorrow—and give each one a colour to represent it. Now, when planning out your day, make sure you include one of each of those colours so that, at the end of the day, you can feel proud that you worked on what means most to you.

You don’t have to spend the entire day working on these things, but as long as you give them 1% of your time, you’ll be better than you were yesterday and therefore should consider it a successful day in the books.

In order to do this, however, you have to make sure that you win by your own standards and not by someone else’s. When you see the world's most productive morning routine’ and think you need to get up at 5 a.m., run a half marathon, and build three businesses to consider your morning productive, think again. Living by others standards will only lead to a life of little fulfilment.

This also means you need to measure yourself against yourself. You should never measure your day vs. someone else’s to consider whether it was good or not; only measure the current you vs. the past you to actually assess whether you’ve grown as a person or not. That will be the true test of a successful day—was it better than yesterday?
