đł The Tradeoff Law
If you want to grow to your potential, you must be willing to give up some things that you value. You must change. Growing into your potential and filling it out will require becoming someone else â or at least awakening aspects of your personality and character that have until now lay dormant. If youâre willing to do that, then thereâs hope for you.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
âIt feels like we have two threads running through our lives: one pulling us into the world to achieve, the other pulling us back to replenish us. These threads can seem at odds, but really, they enforce each other. Itâs not a trade-off between success and sleep.â
THE TRADEOFF LAW
If you want to grow to your potential, you must be willing to give up some things that you value. You must change.
Growing into your potential and filling it out will require becoming someone else â or at least awakening aspects of your personality and character that have until now lay dormant. If youâre willing to do that, then thereâs hope for you.
If you want to develop into a leader of an organization, itâs going to cut into your Netflix time. Youâre going to have to say ânoâ to a few parties with friends and say ânoâ to opportunities that you know arenât aligned with your end goal. youâre going to have to give up some things that you would typically enjoy doing and remember that youâre making these sacrifices for your future self to thrive.
The reason is that these are typically distractions placed in front of you, distractions that will steer and lead you down a path not aligned with what you truly want. If you want to be in the top 1% you have to do what 99% of others arenât willing to which most of the time is sacrificing comfort for excellence.
This process will be hard, It would be foolish to expect it not to be but it most definitely will be rewarding.
That being said, you also need to delineate your nonnegotiables: those things that you refuse to sacrifice no matter what. This takes conscious thought and quiet introspection, but itâs all part of the process.
ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:
Analyse yourself to seek out anything that youâre reluctant to sacrifice, things that you know arenât helping you towards your end goal but for some reason, youâre still clinging on to. Is it playing that game or drinking? If you donât know then ask others around you with an un-bias perspective.
TAKEAWAYS:
If you want to be the best at something then you canât carry the characteristics of the average person. You have to relentlessly go against the grain and be an outlier amongst other people.
