What It Takes To Be In The Top 1%

You may have heard that if you want to be in the top 1%, you need the perfect morning routine, the perfect supplements, and the perfect focus regime in order to get there, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

HOW TO BE IN THE TOP 1%

You may have heard that if you want to be in the top 1%, you need the perfect morning routine, the perfect supplements, and the perfect focus regime in order to get there, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The truth is that if you want to be in the top 1%, you need to go against the grain of the 99%; that’s the only way to possibly do it. Don’t do what the rest of the people are doing.

But what does that actually look like? What does going left when everyone goes right actually look like? There’s not a definitive answer to that question, but what we do know is that there’s a common pattern amongst all those that you would consider ‘in the top 1%, and that’s the following:

  1. Having a contrarian idea

Having a contrarian idea is the first step to going against the grain. It's having an idea that hasn’t been had before, an idea that seems outlandish and may be called stupid but nonetheless solves a problem that needs to be solved.

  1. Being correct about that idea

Secondly, being correct about that idea, which is the part of the process that requires you to roll the dice, you have no clue if your idea will be effective or not until you go out and test it.

  1. Executing on it

Thirdly, executing on that idea is the part that the majority won’t do. Everyone has ideas, but very few take action on them, especially to the extent of creating a company out of them.

To provide some content for this framework, you can look towards our anomalies, such as Steve Jobs.

He had the contrarian idea that all around the world, people would have a computer sitting on their desk (let alone in their pocket!). The idea was shunned and called stupid, which is what is needed for it to be contrarian, and then he executed on that idea and was correct about that idea.

Or you can look at people like Elon Musk and his contrarian The idea was that everyone would drive an electric car, and although that hasn’t fully fallen into place yet, Tesla was the highest-grossing car company in 2022, so clearly there’s some proof in the execution!

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

In order to get started, you have to have your own contrarian idea. You shouldn’t go out searching for this idea, as it won't be discovered through the lens of desperation, but you should keep an eye out for it, and when you do discover it, attack that idea.

TAKEAWAYS:

To become the top 1%, don’t focus on perfecting your morning routine; focus on these 3 things:

  • Having a contrarian Idea

  • Being correct about that Idea

  • Executing on that Idea
