🌳 The Procrastination Killer

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"The average person tip-toes through life hoping that they make it safely to death"Bob Proctor

In simple terms, you get one shot at life, no practice runs. Risk is absolutely necessary to pursue a purpose and live fulfilled.

TAKING LIFE 5 MINUTES AT A TIME.

Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles in the average person's life.

The constant process of delaying an important task, usually by focusing on less urgent, more enjoyable, and easier activities instead.

Sometimes misunderstood as laziness but more comparative to mental paralyzation.

You're able to easily overcome procrastination by taking a different perspective, and

shrinking the graph

if you like. The problem with procrastination is that you're waiting for all of the lights to turn green before you take the first step where you should be taking it one light at a time or in this sense 5 minutes at a time.

This is the 5-minute rule, a rule that will help you tackle life bit by bit and the premise is to take everything 5 minutes at a time to start off pinpoint what is your end goal.

  • Next figure out what is the first step you can take towards achieving that

  • Okay great now figure out what is the next actionable step you can do that gets you closer

  • Okay great! Now figure out what can you do in the next 5 minutes that will get you one step closer.

Breaking it up into smaller chunks like this

gives you an easy next step which is what's needed.

This is also the well-known tactic to start reading even if you have never picked up a book before, take it one page at a time. Set a plan to read one page of a book thats it, if you don't read on after that there's no worries however if you do you can slowly turn it into a habit.

Let's put it into an example, let's say you have the goal to write an email newsletter, big job right? Let's break it up:

First, it's figuring out what to write about

  • Big job? What can be done in the next 5 mins?

  • Research the space.

  • What can be done in the next 5 mins?

  • Open google and put a search in.

This way we have broken down a big task into something that can be done in 5 minutes. Get the idea?

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

Take what you're working on or the task you're procrastinating and break it up into 5 minute tasks this way even if you make a start you're way further ahead than if you were to sit there thinking about it.

TAKEAWAYS:

When stuck, just look at it from a different perspective, Rome wasn't built in a day, it was built brick by brick 5 minutes at a time (maybe 10!)
