🌳 Planning To Start Is Planning To Fail

ā€œIm so fired up, I’m going to start this on Mondayā€ This is something that you or others you know probably say a lot and it’s a sign of a lack of self-discipline. The problem is that people set out these goals for themselves in order to change themselves but still give themselves time to stay as they are before they feel the need to change.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

ā€œIf you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupidā€

Epictetus

In simple terms, If you want to learn you have to be okay asking stupid questions.

PLANNING TO START IS PLANNING TO FAIL

ā€œIm so fired up, I’m going to start this on Mondayā€

ā€œIm so fired up, I’m going to start this at the beginning of next monthā€

ā€œIm so fired up, I’m going to start this in the new yearā€

This is something that you or others you know probably say a lot and it’s a sign of a lack of self-discipline. The problem is that people set out these goals for themselves in order to change themselves but still give themselves time to stay as they are before they feel the need to change.

It’s similar to the stupidity of a New Year’s resolution. People create New Year’s resolutions in order to improve themselves but don’t act on them straight away. They give themselves time to stay as they are although this is just reinforcing the fact within your brain that you’re okay as you are although you know you need to change which ultimately makes it harder to do so.

You’re losing trust in yourself

You need to make sure you’re consistent with what you tell yourself you’re going to achieve and with the effort that you put in. Don’t make it difficult for you to trust your own word because then you truly would lose control.

Remember that you can’t go back in time, there is no point in dwelling on what you haven’t yet done because the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, and the second-best time is now.

Don’t plan to plant the tree in the future, plant it now to give it the time it needs to grow.

Get rid of the options.

Procrastination tends to be the main cause and reason why this happens, you don’t think you’re ready, or you don’t know where to start or it could be the distractions around you.

Get rid of the other options, the date that you could start working towards ā€˜x’ or the distractions that are holding you back from starting today.

TAKEAWAYS:

There is no tomorrow, if you need to do something or make a change to better yourself, make that change today.
