YOU NEED TO READ ‘THE E MYTH’

435 Words | 1 Min 35 Sec Read

Let’s say you’re great at graphic design and you work in a graphic design studio. You know people love your designs, so you decide to start your own graphic design company.

You start with a few existing clients, and they recommend a few more, and before you know it, you’re busy. You have these handful of clients, and now you’re working 14-hour days to make sure that you’re delivering the result and all the other little things you need to do to make sure that the business can keep running.

After a few weeks, you decide you need to hire an experienced assistant and marketer to do the work that you don’t have time to do so that you can focus on what you can do best.

Just as you think things are going well, your assistant leaves, and your marketing manager isn’t doing the work that he should be, so you decide to let him go.

Now you need to do 18-hour days in order to clean up the mess, and now deadlines start to get missed, quality starts to drop, and clients start to let you go.

When you started your business, you thought you wouldn’t have a boss, but now you realise that you are the boss—the boss that gives you no days off.

The problem here is that you built a business that relies on you. That's what The E Myth is about: creating systems that can function without you because if not, you’re not running a business; you’re running yourself.

If you own a bakery, you don’t want to bake the best cakes in town. You want to create a system that bakes the best cakes in town.

You want your cake-baking system to enable the ordinary people you hire to produce extraordinary results.

Let's say, for example, you want to hire a sales rep for your business.

You could either hire an extremely experienced person, but if they were to leave, you would be at ground zero again, or you could write out the best sales script and hire someone with less experience, which means if they were to leave, you still have the script (the system), and you can just hire anyone else to fulfil it.

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

The majority of people fall into the trap of thinking that they can start a business at the snap of their fingers, but if those people took a day off, their business would crumble.

The book ‘The E Myth’ is all about how to create systems around your business so that it can run itself. Check it out HERE.

LESSON OF THE DAY ⤵️

“There's too many options for a side hustle out there? I don't know what's my strengths are and which one to pick? How do i get out of this Dilemma?”

- Anonymous

The time that you will waste trying to decide what side hustle or skill you should start with will push you much further back than just starting with anything and learning as you go.

There is no perfect side hustle, no perfect skill, or no perfect business model, and by pondering around without picking anything, you won’t have an ephifany either.

Your best bet is to just start with something, even if you’re not 100% sure about it. Just start, and with time, adapt and pivot accordingly.
