If you want to grow to your fullest potential, you must be willing to give up some things that you value. You must change.

Growing into your potential and filling it out will require becoming someone else—or at least awakening aspects of your personality and character that have until now lain dormant. If you’re willing to do that, then there’s hope for you.

If you want to develop into the leader of an organisation, it’s going to cut into your Netflix time.

You’re going to have to say "no" to a few parties with friends and to opportunities that you know aren’t aligned with your end goal.

You’re going to have to give up some things that you would typically enjoy doing, and remember that you’re making these sacrifices for your future self to thrive.

The reason is that these are typically distractions placed in front of you, distractions that will steer and lead you down a path not aligned with what you truly want.

If you want to be in the top 1%, you have to do what 99% of others aren’t willing to do, which most of the time is sacrifice comfort for excellence.

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

These are short-term sacrifices for long-term success; how do you know what to sacrifice?

Anything that isn’t pushing you towards your goals If it adds value to your journey in any shape or form, then it's worth keeping; if it’s holding you back or acting as an anchor, it’s got to go.

This process will be hard; it would be foolish to expect it not to be, but it most definitely will be rewarding.

That being said, you also need to delineate your non-negotiables—those things that you refuse to sacrifice no matter what.

This takes conscious thought and quiet introspection, but it’s all part of the process.

TAKEAWAYS:

If you want to be the best at something, then you can’t have the characteristics of the average person. You have to relentlessly go against the grain and be an outlier among other people.

LESSON OF THE DAY ⤵️

The only way you can fully enjoy the love in your life is to choose to make something else more important in your life than love.

Start off with your unfair advantage. What edge do you have over other people that you can use? What do you know more about or are better at doing than the majority of other people?

To answer this question, it requires some soul-searching, but once you do find it, use it!
