Are You Improving Yourself Too Hard?

That sounds ridiculous, right? How could you even improve yourself ‘too hard’? Surely there is no limit to how much you can work on yourself, as you should be aiming to become the best possible version of yourself.

Could you be improving yourself too hard?

That sounds ridiculous, right? How could you even improve yourself ‘too hard’?

Surely there is no limit to how much you can work on yourself, as you should be aiming to become the best possible version of yourself.

Well, what if we told you that there is a limit?

You can fall into the trap of improving yourself ‘too hard’ to the point where the return you get isn’t worth the work that you’re putting in.

You see, when you’re in the state of improving yourself, you start to consume books, videos, podcasts, and anything else that you can get your hands on with the goal of that thing being to teach you something new in order to help you level up.

The problem, however, is that when you set an ideal in your mind, the tendency to compare yourself to that ideal intensifies, and falling short of that can just be demoralising.

When we are on the mission of self-improvement, we have a dream version of ourselves that we want to become, with a certain lifestyle and certain attributes, and although the chase to become that person is part of the fun, when we aren’t already that person, we tend to feel under-achieved and like we are falling behind.

This obviously makes it difficult to become the best version of yourself if every day you wake up feeling like you’re on the back foot.

So, how can you get around this?

The first solution would be to tell you that everything is better in moderation, even self-improvement.

The second solution is to take a page out of Jordan Peterson's book and ‘treat yourself like you’re someone that you’re responsible for helping.’

Treat yourself with kindness; do what needs to be done to get better, but do it while viewing yourself through the lens of someone you love.

And the next time you are going to beat yourself up for something you did or didn’t do, ask this:

'Would I make my loved ones feel this way?'

That question will make you evolve into a more self-aware, kinder, and self-managed person, but it will also skyrocket your self-improvement.

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of hating who you are because you’re not yet the person that you want to become.

LESSON OF THE DAY ⤵️

“How do I get in a continuous focus. I have always struggled with this and get distracted too easily. What an I do”

- Anonymous

Learn about flow state focus.

Flow state focus is a state of mind that you can enter which will eliminate distractions entirely. In order to enter it you need to not only learn how it works but also have specific cues that help make it easier.
