Self-respect is the number one underrated trait that you can have as a young person that will take you extremely far in life, however, not for the reason you may think but because of the knock-on effects that it ends up having, and that's what we’re going to share today.

People see a strong sense of self-respect, meaning you have a big ego. Like, you walk around thinking that you’re the sh*t, but that's not self-respect; that's having a big ego! Self-respect is the art of trusting yourself above all else and only doing what is best for you.

Self-respect automatically makes you prioritise yourself.

Having self-respect means that you won’t put drugs and alcohol into your system; you won’t ruin yourself for a moment of instant gratification, and this turns into a powerful element of self-control. Respecting yourself means having such good control over your own actions because you know who you’re prioritising.

Prioritising yourself isn't only beneficial because you don’t do things that you shouldn't, but also because it means you do things that you wouldn’t otherwise.

Having good self-respect means that you prioritise your mind and body. It means that you do what's best for you despite all of the outside noise. For example, if your friends invite you out, you know you can go out because you have full control over what you eat, drink, and take, meaning you can have an enjoyable time by your own standard.

Self-respect is the foundation behind discipline.

When you break down all of the noise around ‘how to get disciplined', it comes down to one simple truth: discipline is doing what you promised yourself you would do because you respect yourself too much to do otherwise.

This means that the more that you respect yourself, the easier you’ll find it to stay disciplined because it is all about keeping your own word even when nobody is watching.

Hopefully, now you understand the importance of self-respect.

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

Self-respect isn't something that you can just do; it's something that has to be built up over time, something that has to be practiced over and over again and reinforced, but the first step that you can take is to make a start.

TAKEAWAYS:

Self-respect is number one, and if practiced properly, it will unlock doors in your life that you didn’t know existed.
