We all have those days, those days when nothing is going to plan, you donā€™t feel like doing the things you know you have to and you just want to start again. Those days when you feel like giving up. The thing is that research has shown that grit is the characteristic linked most closely to success.

Therefore giving up isnā€™t an option so here are a few tricks you can use to not give up:

Know that youā€™ll never regret it.

You will never regret not giving up, just like how youā€™ll never regret going to the gym or eating healthy. You only regret what you know you shouldnā€™t have done and therefore you will never feel worse after the hard work is done. The mental barrier to starting and completing that hard work is the grit that shines through so know that there is only light on the other side.

Know that Discomfort Is Temporary

Similar to a previous topic we talked about known as ā€˜The pain periodā€™, itā€™s important to remember that in order to grow we have to experience discomfort and pain. That is the only formula that leads to some positive outcomes. You have to tear your muscles before you rebuild them, you have to be uncomfortable before youā€™re comfortable. Itā€™s all part of the process.

Itā€™s all part of life!

Life is a constant balance between giving into the ease of distraction or overcoming the pain of discipline. It is not an exaggeration to say that our lives and our identities are defined by this delicate balance. What is life, if not the sum of a hundred thousand daily battles and tiny decisions to either gut it out or give it up?

This moment when you donā€™t feel like doing the work? This is not a moment to be thrown away. This is not a dress rehearsal. This moment is your life as much as any other moment. Spend it in a way that will make you proud.
