5 Pillars Of Your Future Success

You fundamentally have five different buckets to fill in your life—five buckets that will dictate your success, happiness, pursuit, and meaning—and the more full these buckets become, the higher the chance you’ll have of achieving great things. People such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates (just to name a few of the cliche billionaires) have these buckets brimming, which some could say is the reason they achieved what they have.

FILL YOUR 5 BUCKETS IN ORDER

You fundamentally have five different buckets to fill in your life—five buckets that will dictate your success, happiness, pursuit, and meaning—and the more full these buckets become, the higher the chance you’ll have of achieving great things. People such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates (just to name a few of the cliche billionaires) have these buckets brimming, which some could say is the reason they achieved what they have.

But these buckets aren't special; they aren't something that you can’t fill yourself; It's not a skill issue but just an awareness issue because once you understand them, you can start to fill them yourself! So, what are they? The five buckets consist of:

  • What you know: knowledge

  • What you can do: skills

  • Who you know: Network

  • What you have: Resources

  • What they think of you: reputation

True professional and personal success requires you to fill these buckets in order, the reason being that your knowledge and skills are foundational; if all else crumbled, crashed, and burned, you would still have your knowledge and skills as long as you fortified them first.

Knowing that it's important to develop your knowledge and skills first also helps you choose what direction to go in life. When starting off, prioritise knowledge and skills over the others. If you’re in a job where you’re not learning anything but you’re being paid a lot, it may be worth it to find something else that can provide those two fundamentals because what happens when that vehicle is stripped from you is that you’re left with nothing.

"Those who hoard gold have riches for a moment; those who hoard knowledge and skills have riches for a lifetime. True prosperity is what you know and what you can do."

ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:

When looking for your first job or for your next step in life, focus on doing something where you can absorb the most. If you had a choice between cleaning the floors for a leader in a career you want to pursue and a decently paid retail job, pick the first option every time.

TAKEAWAYS:

Your five buckets to fill are the following:

  • What you know: knowledge

  • What you can do: skills

  • Who you know: Network

  • What you have: Resources

  • What they think of you: reputation

It's imperative that you fill them in that order.
