đł 3 Mental Models to Develop Thick Skin
Using mental models to help reinforce something youâre trying to become better at is a fantastic method to do so. It essentially provides you with extra encouragement or reason to keep doing the thing you set out to do. This can be developing mental models to help yourself wake up early or doing exercise but in this case, letâs go over 3 mental models to develop thick skin.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
âTrying to get everyone to like you is a sign of mediocrity.â
In simple terms, You should make enemies, enemies are made through you pursuing your goals and generating resentment from others. Trying to get everyone to like you shows you have no views, no character and youâre nothing but a sponge.

Spotlight effect
We all tend to think that people are paying much more attention to us than they actually are and this breeds insecurities and self-consciousness. We walk around the shops or around town thinking all eyes are on us. Everyone is judging what we are wearing, how we are walking, and what our hair looks like that particular day.
Hereâs the harsh truth:
Your freedom begins the day you realize nobody is thinking about you. Because nobody is.
Everyone is so focused and worried about what others think of them that they donât have the time or energy to focus on others. If everyone is worried about what others think of them then whos the real fool?
You donât have a spotlight on yourself and worst case scenario someone does pay attention to you, you become a distant memory in minutes.
The âProcedure or Perceptionâ Razor
People love to give feedback, out of resentment, jealousy, spite or just the kindness of their heart but when you receive negative feedback, ask yourself:
Should I change my procedure (the actions you take)
Or should I change my perception (How I interpret the advice Iâve been given?)
This way you donât take everything youâre told as a punch in the face that causes you to overthink or doubt yourself but you can analyse it properly and do with it what you should.
Remember to avoid constructive feedback from people whoâve never constructed anything.
The 10% hater rule
You will receive comments that are topically positive, Itâs much easier for people to throw something âniceâ at you as per to nasty however there will always be someone to turn the other way. No matter if youâre saving puppies from a house fire or youâre trying to change the world for the better.
Remember that 10% of people will find a way to take anything personally. Expect it and treat it as mathâ - Tim Ferris
ACTIONABLE NEXT STEPS:
Build up and search for more of these mental models and implement them into your life. You can use them as a tool in your arsenal for whenever necessary and the more you have the more situations you can deal with.
TAKEAWAYS:
You donât have a spotlight on you, no one does.
Advice is what you perceive it as.
There will always be 10% of people that hate, treat it as math.
